Creatives Inc exhibited at the Greetings Card tradeshow ‘Progressive Greetings Live’ this week at the Business Design Centre, London to showcase  talent both published and unpublished by artists & illustrators from the Creatives Inc collective.

We were in the well received new licensing section DIAL [Design, Image & Art Licensing], where we got to make new & also renew aquaintances, got great feedback on the artwork showing, and new clients for the published ranges. Our little corner of the show did stand out a bit, given we put all sorts of product out there [no one else did..but when did we ever follow protocol?]. You certainly couldn’t miss us anyway.

Images by Rebecca Marshall, Ashley Percival & Ryan Robinson stood out, and  there was good news for some of the other illustrators too. We look forward to taking these designers in to a new direction and see them published, in what is still a very difficult market.

In spite of the swamp condidtions [it was very hot], we survived long enough to enjoy the iced champagne on offer at the end of Day 1, and managed to drag ourselves to the Drinks party held for all exhibitors & visitors. Hard work, but someone’s gotta do it!

London Transport Museum & The Association of Illustrators Competition

London by Tanya St Leger

London Transport Museum, in partnership with the Association of Illustrators (AOI), is delighted to announce that submissions are now welcome for the 2012 Serco Prize for Illustration.

This year the theme is Secret London. Entrants are asked to create an illustration that explores a hidden side to the city.

Entries can depict little known or unusual aspects of the Capital’s history, culture, characters and communities – past or present.

This is an exciting challenge for artists to celebrate a vibrant, multi-layered London in a way it has never been seen before.

The competition is open to students and illustrators throughout the world. The top 50 entries selected by a panel of judges will be displayed in an exhibition at London Transport Museum that will open Tuesday 13 November and run until Monday 10 December 2012.

The winners will be announced at a private award ceremony on the evening of Monday 12 November 2012.

The winning entry will appear on Transport for London services as a poster and prizes will be awarded in three levels:

First prize: £2000
Second prize: £1000
Third prize: £750

The deadline for entries is 5.00pm on Friday 6 April 2012.

The Serco Prize for Illustration continues Transport for London’s legacy of design that dates back over 100 years. The Museum’s collection of graphic art is one of the best in the world and includes over 5,000 posters and artworks by famous artists including Man Ray, Paul Nash and Edward McKnight Kauffer.

This is the third year that Serco, who operate the Barclays Cycle Hire Scheme, Docklands Light Railway and the Woolwich Ferry, has supported the competition. All these transport modes provide an opportunity to discover some of the Capital’s ‘secrets’.

Creative Catalyst: Design For Change Competition

Want to use your designs for a good cause? Creative Catalyst lets you do just that. Design a piece to support an issue of your choice and you could win a £2000 donation as well as your design displayed in Berlin and London with a Computer Arts Magazine profile and double page spread.

Your work will be judged by an international panel of design luminaries.

As creative people your ideas are your greatest commodity. This is a chance to use those skills to raise awareness or promote a cause you really believe in.

Globally there are hundreds of non-profit organisations and under-represented issues that need help getting their messages out. Ranging across environmental, social and economic concerns they often struggle for attention and can have difficulty being heard. So let’s play our part and give them a stronger voice.

We would like you to design a piece for a cause that greatly matters to you – no restrictions on topic but a social focus is mandatory (meaning something that impacts on people in whatever way).

The final work will be visually engaging and clear-messaged. Best of luck!

Submission deadline: 14th November
Finalists announced: 18th November
onedotzero showcase, London: 23rd – 27th November
Winner announced: 23rd November

Print & Pattern Blog

If you havent heard of it, then you must have been living in a cave in deepest Burundi for the last 5 years.

‘Bowie Style’ [not her real name!] has been photographing and logging the styles & trends of the gift, cards & textile industries for what seems like forever. We found the wonderful Michelle Romo through her website back in 2008.

Her perseverence in collecting information resulted in the Print & Pattern Book. She is now getting ready for the launch of Print & Pattern Book 2!

She was also cited by The Times last year as No 15 in the worlds most influential design blogs. We know that the biggest names in retail keep a close eye on her leads.

The website also doubles up a recruitment area for some of the largest publishers and agencies in the UK, so make sure you log in and don’t miss out on those opportunities.
